Measurement techniques

In EXAELIA, recent innovations in measurement technology and experimentation approaches for wind tunnel and flight testing are investigated for their application on FTBs in the future.

Common operational systems & measurement techniques

  • Existing research airports and flight test sites in EXAELIA partner countries will be analysed and potential sites will be identified that are suitable for flight testing with the FTBs.
  • A conceptual design of the datalink system and ground control station (GCS) to manage the FTBs will be performed.
  • Common measurement approaches, instruments, and systems supporting testing are developed.

Advanced measurement techniques

This covers research on how to scale and transfer these measurement and experimentation approaches, covering several relevant discipline:

    • Ground-based noise and aerodynamic flow measurements.
    • Optical measurements for aerodynamics and aeroelasticity.
    • Dynamic unsteady/critical flight condition testing.
